National Education and Values in Action
National Education & Values in Action
At Juying Secondary School, Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) prepares our JYians not only for today, but also for the world they will help shape tomorrow. Anchored in our rallying call, “Let Learning Lead the Way, Our Futureprint Starts Today,” we believe that every learning experience, choice and action leaves a futureprint—on who our students become and the difference they make to those around them.
Through our Cultures of Care, Learning and Excellence, we nurture JYians who care for themselves and others, learn with curiosity and purpose, and strive to use their strengths to make a positive difference.
Our National Education and Values in Action experiences bring this belief to life by empowering JYians to discover their identity, exercise agency and contribute towards building a more gracious world—one futureprint at a time.
Our Goals
Through our National Education and Values in Action experiences, we seek to develop JYians who:
Discover their identity – developing a stronger understanding of themselves, their community and what it means to be part of Singapore.
Exercise agency – recognising their strengths, making choices and taking purposeful action to create positive change.
Build a gracious world – showing empathy and respect for others, contributing to the community and working with others for the common good.
How We Design Our Experiences: A.R.T.
Our Character and Citizenship Education experiences are guided by the A.R.T. framework:
A – Acknowledge Self
Students develop awareness of themselves, their perspectives and the world around them.
R – Recognise Strengths
Students recognise the strengths, abilities and resources within themselves and others that they can draw upon.
T – Transform Self/Others
Students translate their learning into action, growing as individuals while making a positive difference to those around them.
Through A.R.T., learning moves beyond knowing. JYians are given opportunities to experience, reflect, make choices and take action.
National Education: Our Singapore, Our Shared Future
At Juying, we believe students should be active participants in their learning. Our National Education programmes therefore go beyond learning about Singapore through classroom lessons. Through interactive activities, authentic experiences and student-led opportunities, JYians explore what it means to be part of Singapore and discover the role they can play in our shared future.
Total Defence Day
Through experiential activities such as a power disruption exercise, students consider how disruptions to essential services can affect everyday life and what individuals and communities can do to remain prepared and resilient.

International Friendship Day
Students explore Singapore's place in an interconnected world and the importance of building understanding and friendships across cultures and nationalities. Interactive activities and student-led experiences provide opportunities for JYians to learn from and engage with one another.
In 2026, we were honoured to welcome students from SMP Taruna Bakti Bandung (Junior High School Taruna Bakti Bandung), who shared aspects of their culture with our JYians. This meaningful exchange gave our students the opportunity to learn directly from their peers from Indonesia, discover similarities and differences between our cultures, and experience how friendships can be built across borders.

Racial Harmony Day
Students explore Singapore's multicultural society and learn how appreciating diversity and respecting differences strengthen our harmony and resilience as a community.
Beginning in Term 2, Secondary 2 students explore aspects of Singapore's diverse cultures through Racial Harmony projects. In Term 3, they bring their learning to life by designing and facilitating interactive cultural booths for their peers.
Through learning, sharing and engaging others, JYians recognise the role each of us plays in building a more understanding, united and resilient Singapore.

Our Secondary 2 JYians transform their Racial Harmony projects into vibrant, interactive booths, sharing their discoveries and celebrating Singapore’s rich cultural diversity with their peers.
National Day
National Day brings the school together to reflect on Singapore's journey, celebrate our shared identity and imagine our future.
From the National Day Parade and interactive classroom experiences to performances and student-led segments during our concert, JYians are not merely spectators. They contribute their talents, ideas and leadership to create a celebration that belongs to the whole school community.
Across our National Education commemorations, students are given opportunities to experience, create and lead. In doing so, they grow from participants into creators, advocates and contributors who recognise that their voices and actions matter.

Values in Action: From Participation to Ownership
Values in Action provides JYians with meaningful opportunities to connect with the community and put values such as empathy, care and responsibility into practice.
As students progress through Juying, they are given increasing opportunities to contribute their ideas, make decisions and take ownership of how they can make a difference.
ACT Carnival – Creating With Our Community in Mind
One of our signature Values in Action experiences is the ACT Carnival, where students connect with seniors in our community and translate what they learn into meaningful activities for them.
Guided by our A.R.T. framework, students observe and engage with the community, recognise how their own strengths can be used to respond, and work collaboratively to develop their ideas.
For example, through their interactions and observations, our students identified the growing need among seniors to stay safe from scams and become more confident with technology. In response, students developed a new technology-focused theme for the ACT Carnival, creating activities that helped seniors build greater awareness and confidence in navigating an increasingly digital world.
Students also take on different responsibilities in bringing the carnival to life—from developing activities and engaging seniors to facilitating booths and guiding younger participants. The experience allows them to see how their ideas and strengths can contribute to something larger than themselves.

Secondary 4 Self-Initiated Values in Action
By Secondary 4, JYians take greater ownership through their self-initiated Values in Action projects.
Working in teams, students:
Connect with the community and learn about its needs.
Identify an issue or problem they would like to address.
Generate ideas and develop a plan in response to the identified need.
Put their plans into action and contribute to the community.
Reflect on their experience, their impact and what they have learnt about themselves and others.
Through the process, students practise empathy, communication, critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving. More importantly, they discover that they have the agency to step forward, contribute their strengths and turn their ideas into meaningful action.

From the Power of Me to the Power of We
Whether a JYian is leading a National Education activity, creating an experience for seniors or initiating a community project, we want our students to recognise one simple idea:
Every individual has the power to contribute.
When JYians understand who they are and recognise the strengths they can offer, they develop the confidence to step forward. When they bring these different strengths together for a common purpose, the Power of Me becomes the Power of We.
Through these experiences, we hope to nurture JYians who are grounded in their identity, empowered to act, and committed to creating a more gracious school, community and Singapore.
