Overview

Cultural Dance is a captivating expression of the values, traditions, and identity of the JYian community. Cultural dance embodies a rich tapestry of stories, beliefs, and experiences of the multi-racial hotpot that is Juying.

This would not be possible without the care and guidance from our CCA teachers-in-charge, Ms Suhana, Ms Goh Wan Ru and Ms Yeo Yee Teng as well as our esteemed instructor, Mr Quek Jiang Da who has helped students learn dance steps while teaching them about culture and values.

In Cultural Dance, the students not only develop and strengthen their understanding of Chinese Contemporary dance skills, but they also learn and appreciate other ethnic dance elements, such as Malay Dance and also Modern Dance. Furthermore, dance serves as a powerful medium for imparting important values such as resilience, tenacity, and adaptability to the students.

It is also a tradition for Cultural Dance to perform for the National Day Celebration in school. This year’s performance will yet again be another breakthrough, with the dancers attempting a relatively new genre; modern dance.

Our Cultural Dance bonding camp held annually every November encourages our students to learn more about each other so as to respect their peers’ diversity in races and religion. It also provided ample opportunities for students to display their graciousness by looking out for others and embracing teamwork by sharing with one another what they know about dance.

Thus, our CCA is definitely an established platform to support and develop our members in Juying Secondary School on character building and aesthetic talents.
