AI Use in Juying Secondary School

At Juying Secondary School, we take a pedagogy-first, learning-centred approach to AI, with students’ safety and well-being in mind when AI is used in teaching and learning. Our school guidelines and staff professional learning support teachers in designing age-appropriate activities, identifying clear lesson objectives and setting boundaries on AI use.

 To develop AI literacy, our teachers guide students to attempt tasks independently before using AI to provide customised feedback, recognise potential errors and bias, and take responsibility for their work. We believe that AI should support learning while students remain active, independent thinkers. Our G.U.A.R.D. approach guides students to generate their own ideas, understand AI’s limitations, critically assess and improve its responses, and disclose their use of AI transparently. Students remain responsible for their work and should follow their teachers’ guidance on when and how AI may be used.

In class, students will learn about AI, learn to use AI, learn with AI and learn beyond AI, while teachers will use AI purposefully so that students can thrive in an AI world. Students should also protect their personal information and seek help from a teacher whenever AI content raises concerns. Through purposeful lesson design and explicit guidance on responsible use of AI, we help students benefit from AI while developing critical thinking and sound judgement. Our school will put in appropriate guardrails and teacher supervision, especially when AI is used for assessment.
