Science
Vision
Every JYian, a lifelong learner and practitioner of Science
Mission
To cultivate lifelong learners with an awareness and interest in the application of Science in their daily lives.
Overview
At Juying, we believe Science begins with curiosity and grows through discovery. The Science Department nurtures JYians who ask questions, investigate possibilities and use scientific thinking to better understand the world around them.
Our curriculum builds strong foundations in core scientific ideas while connecting Science with STEM through authentic, hands-on learning. Educational technology enables teachers to customise learning experiences, deepen understanding and engage students in exploring scientific concepts in new ways.
In 2026, we extended STEM learning beyond the classroom through a collaboration with Sembcorp, giving students opportunities to learn about sustainable energy and see how Science can contribute to solving real-world challenges.
Through inquiry, experimentation and authentic experiences, we nurture scientifically literate JYians who remain curious, think critically and recognise that Science is not only about understanding our world, but imagining how we can make it better.
Program and Activities
At our school, the Science Department is dedicated to bringing the world to our school and taking learning beyond the classroom to nurture a true joy of learning. Through immersive journeys across Singapore, we bring textbook concepts to life and spark deep curiosity in our students.

Changi Intertidal Walk
Our Biology students have a first-hand learning experience on the floral and fauna in the intertidal areas, exploring the less visited beaches in Singapore. They see first-hand the various adaptations of the resident living organisms and also learn more about organisms that lives in Singapore intertidal ecosystem.

Applied Chemistry Workshop @ RP
The Applied Chemistry workshop provides students with hands-on session to apply their chemistry knowledge to popular domains, such as forensics and beauty care. Students got to visit a lab, equipped with real-time cloud-based data collection and analytics, jointly established with Shimadzu, a global leader in analytical instruments for science and research.

Sungei Tengeh Floating Solar Farm
Learning came to life beyond the classroom as our students visited Singapore’s floating solar farm in collaboration with Sembcorp. They saw first-hand how sustainable energy is generated and learnt how energy is managed at the national level. The experience helped them better appreciate Singapore’s efforts to build a greener and more sustainable future.

ChemXcite! Chemistry Game-Based Learnign Festival 2026
Our school was part of the team to present and participate in the ChemXcite! - Chemistry Game-based Learning Festival 2026, organised by the Game-based Learning in Chemistry NLC in collaboration with Nan Hua High School Chemistry Unit. This learning festival provided an excellent opportunity for professional growth through peer collaboration whilst providing students with an engaging and joyful Chemistry learning experience.

Yakult Factory Visit
Students got the chance to learn more about bacteria and how it is applied in an authentic setting. They also gained a better understanding of how science is used in the production of everyday products like Yakult. The visit gave them a behind-the-scenes look at the manufacturing process and quality control involved. It was a meaningful experience that connected classroom learning with real-world applications.

Water Rockets @ Science Centre
Students got the chance to discover and apply what they have learnt on forces in their visit to the Water Rockets @ Science Centre. They learn about effect of forces and brainstorm in groups and apply cross-disciplinary ideas to see who can launch their rockets the furthest.

NUS Science DemoLab
Students attended the workshop and experienced the importance and universal role of science in our daily lives. The experiments range from creating fluorescent artwork, making our own smartphone microscope to discovering the chemistry behind paper marbling and diapers.
