Student Leadership
Student Leadership @ Juying Secondary School
At Juying Secondary School, we believe that every student can and should be developed as a leader. Leadership in Juying is not about titles or positions. It is about character, purpose, and the courage to make a meaningful difference in the communities we belong to.
Our Approach
Our Student Leadership Development framework is built on three foundations that together define what it means to lead well in Juying.
Heart: R2IGHT Values
At the core of every JYian leader is a strong set of values. Our R2IGHT values (Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Gratitude, Humility, and Tenacity) form the moral foundation that guides every leader's choices and behaviours. We believe that good leadership must first be grounded in good character.
Head: 5G Dispositions
Beyond values, effective leaders are shaped by the way they think and respond to the world around them. Our 5G Dispositions (Grounded, Gutsy, Growth-Oriented, Gritty, and Giving) equip our student leaders with the mindsets needed to lead with resilience, courage, and care.
Hand: 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership
Leadership is ultimately expressed through action. Drawing from Kouzes and Posner's 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership, our student leaders are developed in the observable behaviours that translate values and dispositions into meaningful impact for their peers, their school, and their community.
A Journey for Every JYian
Every student in Juying begins their leadership journey by learning to lead themselves, developing self-awareness, living out their values, and taking ownership of their actions and growth. As students demonstrate readiness and a desire to contribute more, they are given opportunities to extend their influence, leading their peers, their teams, and eventually other leaders.
This journey is supported across four platforms: Class Leaders, Peer Support Leaders, CCA Leaders, and Student Council, each offering distinct and meaningful opportunities for students to grow as leaders in ways that are relevant to their interests and strengths.

Class Leaders serve their classes with pride, working alongside their Form Teachers to foster a positive class environment where every student can learn and grow. From Class Chairpersons to Sports, ALP, LLP, and Technology Champions, Class Leaders shape the day-to-day experience of every JYian in their class.

Peer Support Leaders are advocates for the social and emotional wellbeing of their peers. They build connections, foster a culture of care and belonging, and lead school-wide initiatives on cyber-wellness, bully-free culture, and student wellness.

CCA Leaders play a significant role in enhancing their CCAs and keeping their members engaged, united, and striving towards their best. Their leadership journey spans four years, growing progressively from building foundational skills to leading their teams with purpose and mentoring their successors.
